Dimmuborgir is a dramatic volcanic site that demonstrates a unique part of Iceland’s spectacular geological history. The Hverfjall’ volcano power is evident in the vast fields of dark, irregular rocks that put man’s scale into geological perspective. The Black Lava Fields Visitor Center creates atmospheres that heighten our sensory awareness of this natural wonder by directing and framing the visitors’ views of the Dimmuborgir lava field and Hverfjall. “The Visitor Center” is a vessel that allows these singular experiences to unfold gradually as each person circulates the building, and especially when they emerge from it and enter the expansive volcanic landscape on foot.
