New York City’s lack of affordable housing impacts families of all different types. Split House residential units are designed with adaptability and growth as the basis behind each layout. Each floor level is split down the middle and offset 5’-0” in height allowing for maximum efficiency of the central stair. This vertical circulation core acts as the “front porch” for each home creating a sense of community between neighboring units. “Breakaway” walls dividing each unit provide sound & fire protection while allowing the potential for the wall to be removed for future growth. This design approach provides access to affordable housing across all scales of family typologies. Paired with a rent-to-own initiative, this unique typology offers access to housing and generational wealth to thousands of NYC.
