YGGDRASIL

Inspired by the breathtaking views from the Sørværvarden viewpoint and a desire to create a communal space for arts and knowledge exchange on the island, I utilized the 3D scan to conceptualize a demountable structure named Yggdrasil. Drawing from the iconic stone sailor markers found across the islands, this design offers a versatile venue for celebration and exhibition, adaptable to seasonal changes.
As Fleinvær welcomes more visitors, particularly during the Bodø European Capital of Culture events, this activated space could serve as a beacon of cultural and artistic significance. Yggdrasil stands not only as a testament to our appreciation for the natural world but also as a source of inspiration for generations to come.

RESISTANCE AND ARTISTIC RENEWAL

Yggdrasil’s circular form mirrors the salmon farms along the Norwegian coastline, which supply 50% of the global demand.
While economically vital to Norway, intensive salmon farming harms aquatic ecosystems by introducing pests and waste.
Rising ocean temperatures and plastic waste in the Arctic further threaten this fragile environment.  The stone fire towers
were last lit in protest of drilling off the Lofoten Islands. Similarly, may Yggdrasil be illuminated to resist forces altering this
landscape and foster the artistic resurgence at the Arctic Hideaway.
